As part of its effort to provide better services to the people, Benadir Regional Administration (BRA) today officially launched for the first time a program for Public Financial Management (PFM) reform.

The PFM reform program is part of the administrative Change Management (CM) Plan adopted by the new BRA administration. Since coming to office in April 2017, the new BRA administration has worked to develop and adopt a Financial Management Information System (FMIS) for Banadir Region and Mogadishu Municipality.

The BRA FMIS platform went live and became fully operational on July 01, 2017. Through FMIS, the BRA administration aims to ensure efficient, effective, transparent and accountable use of public resources to serve the holistic social welfare needs of its citizenry.

“Our overall vision of PFM reform is to effectively engage our people in the region and bring services closer to them,” said Thabit Mohamed, Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu. “BRA for the first time since 1991 has implemented and published a comprehensive budget for the second half of 2017. This is an important step for the region as it sets the foundation for the financial reforms” said Maluka Abdulkadir, Deputy Mayor.

“The Federal Government of Somalia, commends and encourages this noteworthy achievement, especially with the new BRA leadership just celebrating 100 days in office. Moreover, the FMIS will deliver good governance which is in compliance with the national pillar of accountability and transparency,” said H.E Mahdi Mohamed Guled, Deputy Prime Minister of FGS.

The BRA FMIS platform is completely self-funded and self-determined initiative to demonstrate the administrations’ political commitment.
